The Kindle version is only vol 2

On the whole, Henry Stephens's Book of the Farm offers excellent and in depth insight into farming during the Mid 19th Century. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of agriculture and to modern day organic farmers. This book has a lot of information that can be gleaned and applied to small scale organic farms in operation today. I'm very impressed with how efficient some of these so called low-tech methods are compared to our current mechanised practices.

The Kindle version of the book is somewhat lacking (at the time of writing this review). It is only Vol. 2 of the two volume set of the unabridged version of the Book of the Farm. As far as I can tell it is missing the first half of the book.

The kindle version does have at least some of the gorgeous illustrations which show up really nicely on my kindle (version 3).

Until the Kindle version of this book is fixed, I would recommend the abridged version of Henry Stephens's Book of the Farm, edited by Alex Langlands. Although not available for kindle at this time, this edition provides a detailed overview of the full book and great coloured illustrations.

The Bible of Caribbean Civil Procedure

I was taught by the author, who is also a personal friend of mine. I put that out there because I know someone might claim bias, which is understandable. Notwithstanding the fact of my personal acquaintance with him, the book itself is a most comprehensive and detailed analysis of the law governing the various issues that arise in Civil litigation. I find that this book is more useful to have sometimes in Court than the CPR itself. Sounds strange, but this would be the "Cliff Notes" of the CPR.

I speak as one qualified to practice in both Belize and Jamaica. There are not really any alternatives, but truthfully I don't anticipate any alternatives when the one option is so good. Ok, let me say, it is absolutely great!

About the Author

Peter Atkins is a fellow of Lincoln College in the University of Oxford and the author of about seventy books for students and a general audience. His texts are market leaders around the globe. A frequent lecturer in the United States and throughout the world, he has held visiting professorships in France, Israel, Japan, China, and New Zealand. He was the founding chairman of the Committee on Chemistry Education of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and was a member of IUPAC's Physical and Biophysical Chemistry Division.


Julio de Paula is Professor of Chemistry at Lewis & Clark College. A native of Brazil, Professor de Paula received a B.A. degree in chemistry from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Yale University. His research activities encompass the areas of molecular spectroscopy, biophysical chemistry, and nanoscience. He has taught courses in general chemistry, physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, instrumental analysis, and writing.

Pretty Bad

I Was forced to buy this for P-chem class at school, and IMHO this book is almost completely worthless. Information is not laid out in a helpful way, the graphs are hard to understand, and the typesetting for the equations is just awful. I would say the only redeeming factor for this book is the problems in the back of the chapter; they're actually pretty good for a chemistry book. Bottom line, if you're looking for a way to increase your knowledge of the subject, stay away from the book. If you're forced to buy it like I was, I wish you luck. I hope your professor has enough supplementary material to address the shortcomings of this book. P-chem is a subject worth learning, but you likely won't learn it from this book. Hope I helped.

Dr. J.P. Saxena holds a B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Post-Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Delhi, India. He received his PhD in Energy Conservation from the Indian Institue of Technology, Delhi. Dr. Saxena is presently working as Consulting Engineer�for Saudi Cement Company, one of the largest cement companies in the Middle East, having two cement plants. He has over 40 years of�professional experience with cement in various senior positions.
